Commercialisation Associate - Physical Sciences

Do you want to play a role in commercialising the ideas of world-leading academics?

Why you will love this role:

The variety of the role is remarkable; working within the Technology Transfer (TT) team, you will guide academics as they move from frontier research towards application through the commercialisation of their ideas and inventions. You will find the breadth of scientific diversity and the range of projects statuses (from fledgling idea through to patented and licensed technology) stimulating and engaging. And working at the heart of Europe’s most successful innovation cluster, you will be working with cutting-edge technologies and the next great ideas, able to help these discoveries make a difference in the world.

Your day to day work will involve many different activities:

  • Innovation Assessment: Identify the value of innovations through prior art searches, market analysis, and commercial assessments.
  • Enhance Value: Contribute to enhancing the value of innovations by identifying potential applications.
  • Research Transformation: Help researchers convert their findings into tangible services and products that bridge the gap between academic publications and real-world applications.
  • Market Assessments: Conduct market assessments to support the development of intellectual property assets and proof of concept demonstrators.
  • Agreements: Read and draft agreements to facilitate the commercialisation process.
  • Academic Outreach and Training: Engage with academics to promote Cambridge Enterprise through our outreach and training programs.
  • Support Licensing and Company Creation: Support licensing and the creation of new companies through industry and investor partnerships.

What we're looking for:

  • Your background is in engineering, physics, maths, chemistry or materials and you have a Ph.D. and/or research experience.
  • You may have knowledge of software, AI or data innovations.
  • You have an interest in innovation and managing and commercialising intellectual property and a broad interest in science and technology.
  • You may already have skills in market research and business development.
  • Perhaps you already have knowledge of the patenting process, licensing, or other aspects of technology transfer, and experience in a commercial environment.
  • You have excellent organisation skills and can handle and prioritise a number of projects simultaneously.
  • You have highly developed communication skills and can put yourself in your customer’s shoes.
  • Your IT skills are proficient, you work well within a team, and demonstrate high levels of initiative and creative problem solving.

Diversity and equality matter:

These are our ideal requirements, but we know some people are less likely to apply for the role unless they are 100% qualified. At Cambridge Enterprise, we promote a diverse, inclusive and empowering culture, so please apply if you meet the majority of the job requirements.

If you have any questions about the interview process, or if you need any reasonable adjustments, please don’t hesitate to contact Ian, Gemma or Michelle at people@enterprise.cam.ac.uk
