Colombia
Dr Alison Campbell and Robert Marshall delivered a three-day ‘Technology Transfer’ course for Colombian Innovation Managers in Cambridge recently (23-25 September), following a successful pilot training course delivered by PraxisUnico in 2012. The training course was funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) Prosperity Fund* and INNpulsa, and was run in partnership with Cambridge Enterprise. The training course formed part of a broader skills development programme delivered by Cambridge Enterprise focusing on TTO audit, TTO training (PrU) and mentoring - delivered in both Colombia and Cambridge.
*The Prosperity Fund programme aims to assist Colombia as it transitions from a resource-based economy to one based on science, innovation and entrepreneurship. The Colombian government has committed to spending £500 million annually on science and innovation from 2010-2014, but currently requires additional expertise and capacity in translating research results into successful products and companies.
India
Dr David Secher represented PraxisUnico (and University of Cambridge) at a two day international “Technology Transfer & Licensing Agreements” workshop, organised by Steinbeis Centre for Technology Transfer, India (Steinbeis is a German organisation that operates franchises in other countries, the workshop was organised by the Indian franchise based in Hyderabad). The theme of the meeting was ‘licensing across borders’. There is strong German support for Indian collaboration. Germany is #4 in terms of trade with India after China, USA and Switzerland.

Brazil
Dr Alan Burbidge, from University of Nottingham and Patricia Latter (both PraxisUnico Committee members), from the Royal Veterinary College, joined a group of seven UK academics for a workshop in Belem, northern Brazil, last week on biodiversity, innovation and sustainability. They were invited to give brief presentations and contribute to a roundtable session on sharing best practice in technology transfer. The event was organised by the British Consulate-General in Sao Paulo and provided an opportunity to present an introduction to the work of PraxisUnico to the audience from regional universities, research facilities and the innovative businesses with whom they are collaborating.
This builds on PraxisUnico’s links with Brazil through FORTEC and the FCO/SIN Brazil and the PraxisUnico training delivered in Sao Paolo in August 2012.
